Project on Nutrition in Geriatric Oncology - 2023/2024
Background and Project Format
Considering the importance of nutritional status in Geriatric Oncology, Sharing Progress in Cancer Care is carrying out a targeted project which foresees two stages:
- A closed virtual Task Force
- A Manuscript summarising the most important outcomes of the Task Force
Learning Objectives
- Addressing the needs of older cancer patients
- Focusing on the topic of the nutrition management
- Understanding how to address the needs of older cancer patients, taking as case example nutrition management
- Defining whether the need for nutrition management can only be addressed if the nutrition risk is screened/assessed
- Defining whether the nutrition risk screening is part of geriatric screening and geriatric assessment recommended for older cancer patients
- Discussing about the following crucial topics:
- Who is responsible for (Comprehensive) Geriatric Assessment in practice in an outpatient clinic/hospital
- To whom are (Comprehensive) Geriatric Assessment results addressed in practice? Is electronic patient record so advanced to alert major findings regarding nutrition management?
- Who will be responsible for nutrition management initiation?

Participants: 7 world-renowned experts plus Dr Matti Aapro (SPCC President and Scientific Coordinator, as moderator)
Outcomes: a Manuscript to be submitted for publication to an appropriate journal (journal to be defined)
