SPCC-SIOG: Joint Educational Project on Geriatric Oncology - 2023
Background
SPCC (Sharing Progress in Cancer Care) and SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology) are organising a project focused on Geriatric Oncology.
Medical practices and knowledge are continuously and rapidly evolving. New diagnostics tests, therapies and recommendations are always added to the market and studies are constantly performed to reassess relative efficacies of current treatment options. Continuing education addresses these issues in order to keep clinicians up-to-date on new information, as well as reinforce quality information. Patients also have ongoing educational needs related to health literacy and understanding treatment options.
The initiative foresees 4 short podcasts and 4 Meet the expert webinars in Geriatric Oncology.
The rationale for the joint project is:
- To develop innovative learning methods and tools
- To ensure access to increasing number of health professionals
- To close the educational gap in oncology for elderly patients
Learning Objectives
The project will try to achieve the following objectives:
- To share the best practises in Geriatric Oncology
- To close the educational gap for oncology on elderly patients
- To keep clinicians up-to-date on new information with new learning methods
- To measure the grade of knowledge through CME questionnaires for physicians
Podcasts
The SPCC-SIOG podcasts will allow all health professionals involved in the care of older patients with cancer to access content in a unique multimedia format (cross devices) to get, within a single learning activity, various multimedia components that would enhance their learning experience as well as improve their knowledge and understanding on important geriatric oncology topics, results and scientific findings.
The 4 short podcasts will be free of charge and accessible to the audience by registering on SPCC's OncoCorner e-learning platform.
The materials will remain available on-demand until obsolete, or at maximum for 1 year.
